How we work

You will be seen by a qualified psychodynamic counsellor who is also substantially trained as a Humanistic counsellor to offer you Client Centred counselling

I draw on other modalities with different techniques, such as Bereavement Counselling, Solution Focused Short Term Therapy, Relaxation Techniques and Play and Creative Work Therapy (mainly used for children), for a more integrative approach to meet individual client/patient needs.

Our therapist main approach to counselling is psychodynamic, which explores problems more in depth, to identify how they emerged and what hinders their change. The psychodynamic counsellor works on the premise that, current conflicts and difficulties presented by clients/patients, can often be understood as a reflection of their past experiences and relationship with significant adults in earlier childhood life. This treatment encourages you to talk freely about the painful conflicts, feelings and the experiences that are affecting your life. The counsellor listens attentively and supports you to reflect on what you bring to the session.

The aim for counselling/psychotherapy is for a deeper awareness and understanding of what might be influencing current difficulties, by paying attention to both conscious and unconscious actions, so that change becomes clearer and manageable.

The relationship between counsellor and client is very important because it offers the counsellor insight into some of the problems the client might bring to the session. Such understanding will help clients also to adapt to more meaningful ways of being, clients are therefore encouraged to attend their sessions regularly with their designated counsellor/therapist.

Good practice

As a registered member of ‘The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)’ all of our counsellors/psychotherapists are bound by its ethical framework which safeguards ‘Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy’ and ensures the requirement for care by appropriate supervision of work and a confidential service provided in a safe and comfortable environment.
